Coaching is a partnership in which the coach facilitates a process of inquiry that allows you, the client, to think deeply and in new ways. Coaching supports you in finding your own answers and putting them into action.
Coaching is future-focused, solutions-driven, and growth-oriented.
Coaching is evidence-based, structured, rooted in science, and client-led. -
Therapy can often focus on the past and finds problems to fix.
Coaching focuses on the future and goal attainment, and believes the client is whole and wholly capable.
Consulting, while goal-directed and solutions-oriented, tells the client what the problem is, then designs and gives the solution to the client. There may or may not be any follow-up.
Coaching is client-led, meaning that the client decides their goals and and designs any actions they want to take themselves. This allows for autonomy and self-motivation and promotes lasting change.
Mentoring provides personal perspective and advice from a respected authoritity figure with more experience in a given area. A mentor often tells the actions they did or would take were they in the mentee’s shoes.
Coaching is also tailored to a specific scenario or goal, but the coach asks the client questtions to help them form their own thinking about how to manage the scenario. This allows the client to develop new patterns of thinking, creativity in problem-solving, and ownership of the solution.. -
